What is wrong? What should be done?

All the politicians want is power

The political circus going on these days worries me. It is getting worse than the TV serials where one sometimes one doesn’t know who is married to whom and who is related to whom. Today, political parties are trying to use the other political parties to win more seats irrespective of what their idealogy is. They are breaking long term relationships with each other on flimsy excuses and disputes. I think two parties have broken their relationship with their partners over a dispute as to who will fight one particular seat. I find this totally ridiculous.

I wish they were breaking relationship with each other based on disagreements on how to fix the various problems of the country or joining hands with each other based on agreements on how to fix the various problems of the country. If you read the papers today, not one opf the parties is talking about the problems of this country. Every political, bar none, is focused on how to win the elections and how they will share the power after they win. None of the political parties is talking about what is wrong with our country and what they are going to do to fix the problems.

Every political party is looking at numbers and doing their math on voting based on caste. Alliances are being formed and broken based on numbers of votes of a particular caste. I am not saying that this should not be done but what I am scared about is that nobody is talking about the problems that the people of this country face on a daily basis.

The worst part is that our all powerful media including Times of India, Economic Times, Hindustan Times and others are not pointing out the flaw in the behavior of the political parties. For instance, Congress is claiming to be the saviour of the “aam aadmi” but nobody is raising the issue that they gave away over Rs. 50,000 crores to big time industrialists while issuing telecom licenses. We need to let the politicians know that we, the citizens of this country, are not stupid and the media of this country has to play a major role in this exercise.

Times of India and Economic Times should realize that releasing highly patriotic sounding advertisements are not what is going to solve our problems. They may be good for a PR exercise but we need the media to be more analytical if something good has to come out. We need the media to follow a story till some positive results are achieved. For instance, a hue and cry was raised with respect to the potholes but nothing really was done. Now, nobody is even talking about it. Our politicians and bureaucrats are aware of our inability to follow an issue to its logical end so none of them care about what we say or do.

I know what you must be thinking. Here is another guy who is complaining / shouting from the outside. I know you must be asking the same questions that a number of people keep asking, that is, “Why don’t you do something about it?” Even Times of India and Economic Times ares releasing advertisements asking the same questions.

Well, I have decided to do something about it. I have decided to get inside to do something. I will contest the next elections if not the current one. My basic premise is that since competition improves quality of products and services, competition in elections will do the same for our country management system (Politics). Since I do not have the money or the inclination to spend huge amounts like all the political parties like Congress, BJP, Samajwadi Party (SP), DMK, AIDMK, Shiv Sena, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and others, I will use the net to contest elections. I will use my website www.vote2change.org and this blog to discuss problems that our country is facing as well as try to identify solutions for resolving the problems.

I need your support for the following:

(a) Please let me have your comments whether I am on the right track or not? Also, comment on the problems and solutions so that I can further refine my thoughts.
(b) Tell your freinds, relatives and colleagues about the website / blog as I believe more and more people should start thinking about resolving our country’s problems.
(c) Decide to contest elections or convince others to contest elections so that we can increase competition with good candidates (products) in the election industry.
