What is wrong? What should be done?

Does India need presidential form of government

I read an article in Economic Times suggesting that what we need is the presidential form of government to solve all our problems. This is another example of people giving suggestions without considering what is the root cause ofthe problem that this country has. For instance, will a presidential form of government remove corruption? Will it result in effective law and order situation in the country? The answer is NO.

America is a great country (I know about the recession and its current problems) not because of presidential form of government but because of its judicial system, law and order and almost no corruption. You can get a telephone connection and a light connection just on telephone. Try building additional floors of buildings or occupying government land and see what happens. You can register a company by mail or in 1 hour just by paying more. Government officials will call you SIR. Look at the ability of the local law enforcement officials.

What makes America great is a level playing field for everybody and not political connections or corruptions. Laws are strictly enforced. Government departments are accountable to a great extent. You do not have to go 10 times to a government department and pay underhand money to get your work done.

It is not our system of government which is at fault. It is we at fault. If we can remove corruption, enforce law and order and hold the government and its officials accountable, our system will work. Thises are the root cause ofthe problems that we have in this country.

i do not agree with u sir,we badly need a presidential form of government because just look at the fact that voter will surely know that whom is going to run the country so that his 1 vote will have a much bigger authority he will feel it.as u said we have this “chalta hai” factor but this is because voter did’nt know if he elrcts a particular candidate then is his party going to make the government.suppose a party is just few short seats short of making the govt then definately there will be dealing n small party candidates take this advantage n govt formed is a “milijuli sarkar” which we can call as khichdi sarkar n govt can’t remain in balance n it will struggle for 5 years n it will always be defensive to save the govt.i know we r also responsible but not in a way u have suggested.so we have to give the power to 1 man n that 1 man will be chosen by us means by u by me by India directly without any intereference.so,is it not the best for us?? I think it is. what do u think. i m not asking it only u but to all indians………………………………

Its high time we choose the right people to govern and manage a country with such a huge potential like ours. Its not just a so called free suggestion but have been proved itself for years. Until and unless a person is accountable and knows the consequences he will not deliver the purpose for which he is chosen. Same is the case with the parliamentary form of govt in India. Following are two logic for the same.

1. Our PM Mr. Man Mohan Singh ,who has never been elected to the parliament by people, has been elected to the post of The PM of India by Sonia Gandhi and not by us (the people). Even after so many failures and corruption cases he has never taken any concrete step or even the responsibility. We need a leader to run this country and not an Economics Book Cover page model. Even the congress got elected as we dont have any other option.

2. The recent poll result in Kolkatta and other states have shown that the no. of history sheeters have risen to as high as 42% in some states. Now does anyone think or rather dare to think that a pig will in any case work to keep the surroundings clean.

Today we don’t need people sitting on dharnas and all for their personal motive(Even though some may be right) but what we need is better governance and a Really Empowered and able learder to lead the country democratically in the interest of the people.

I am surprised why people want to live in LA And california when we can make ours a haven only by participating and contributing in the change process.

vikas hi!

you have hit the nail on the head. Accountability is the key. If a guy is responsible for filling up the pot holes on the road and if he doesn’t do it, he should be held accountable. Kindly visit my websit http://www.vote2change.org where I have suggested just 3 steps that we need to take to solve all our problems and accountability is one of them. In the next 6 months, I am coming out with a book which will propose eliminating the root cause. None of the people I have heard so far have recommended what I am recommending. Anna Hazare’s crusade tio get a Lokpal bill is fine but who is going to implement it? The same government, the same police and the same judiciary.

thanks

I think India badly needs presidential form of government. No need for support of corrupticians to become the head of govt. He will be chosen directly by the common man.He will be having a cabinet of technocrats, not likes of Lalu/Paswan/Mulayam. No vote for cash.Instead of election every 5th yr for MPs,it should be fixed like this. Every year 20% of MPs will be elected from each state. This will reflect his popularity for governance.

india needs a strong presidential form to change the country and uplift it not parliamentary form where idiots get power and misuse it. We want one and we will elect him or her and that is only possible in presidential form. If not possible we have to make it possible. Change the constitution and havd a stable democracy.
