What is wrong? What should be done?

Support Baba Ramdev, but not his fast unto death

I have not heard anybody say that please do not support Baba Ramdev’s fast. I think in the current scenario it would be foolish to say so. However, let me be the first one to say, “Support Baba Ramdev in his cause but not his “fast unto death” method. Ask Baba Ramdev to fight elections and tell him that all of you will support him to win so that he can implement whatever action plan he chooses but please do not support his “fast unto death.”

Whatever Baba Ramdev has started is not going to good for the people of this country. If he wins because the government is too weak, his action plan will be imposed on all of us even though he does not represent the majority. He does not have any authority to impose his will on us and neither does Anna hazare. Also, I do not agree with his action plan. He wants to discontinue with Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000 notes. Is this the root cause of the problem? It will put all of us through a lot of inconvenience. Imagine I want to buy a TV for Rs. 20,000 and I am carrying the money in Rs. 100 notes. What about his suggestion of death penalty for the corrupt. Death penalty is a serious punishment. A guy who is a sadhu should take the death penalty a little more seriously.

The biggest flaw in Baba Ramdev’s plan is that he has assumed that the government can do whatever he is asking for. This is not true. I am unable to understand how he expects the government to bring back the black money abroad quickly enough so that he can end his fast without something really serious happening to him. Baba should know that foreign governments do not work under the government of India. Also, the present government does not have absolute majority for it to do whatever it wants. So what will be the end result. I am sure that the government cannot bring back the black money from abroad in one year. So Baba will continue on his fast till that happens. If he does, I am sure he will die because it is physically impossible for the government to do what he is asking. If something happens to Baba Ramdev, the result will be voilence and people will get killed.

We will be back to square one. Now if Baba Ramdev wants to fight elections, I will also support him. In fact, I will also stand for elections. Once we win, we will take all possible actions to curb corruption because we will have the mandate of the people as well as the means and power to take effective actions.

I hope all of you out there realize that what Baba Ramdev is doing is not going to resolve our problem but may add to the problem. So, I ask all of you sane, logical and educated people, please appeal to Baba to follow the right path – fight elections and get a mandate from the people. If he continues to use force based on his support base, he is no better than the current set of politicians.

Congratulations Sir, you have told us a very different aspect of the problem. I agree with you.
The problem is that nobody wants to be a whistleblower, not even our Govt. Baba Ramdev Ji is a regious leader and everyone has to say yes whatever he says.

I do not doubt the good intentions of Baba Ramdev but unless he has the ideological sophistication to take on our corporate behemoths, he will end up as a martyr. Will he be able to stand up to the mighty American empire which wears the mask of democracy but can punish its whistle-blowers so openly and ruthlessly? Will the baba be ever able to stop liquor production or tobacco cultivation? Let him not underestimate the strength of the dark forces in the country. Nevertheless I wish him well.

Hi!

I do agree with you that getting rid of corruption is a difficult job. There are strong vested interests involved. There are big bucks involved. There is only one way we can achieve our objective. That is, we need control of the government.

People in Bengal and Bihar went through tough time. The only way out was to overthrow the government in these two states. We do see improvement in Bihar. I think now we will see improvements in Bengal also.

thanks for your comments.

Baba Ramdev is the right person doing the right thing at right time. There is no harm if joining Indian Politics. Because politics through good politicians can change situation.

Hi!

Baba Ramdev does have to be a traditional politicians. I have already proposed that we need country managers and not politicians. For a job in the company you haver to go through an interview. For the job of managing the country, you have to get elected. I have suggested that Baba Ramdev should fight elections all over the country and let us all join together to make him win by absolute majority so that he can take the actions to eliminate poverty. Fast unto death is not a good option. Forcing your personal views and agenda on the government is setting a bad precedent.

Thanks for your comment.

removing higher currency notes like Rs.1000 and Rs.500 and Rs.100 is the sure-shot method suggested by all 30 economic committees have proposed this, but no one has dared to do it except once way back 30 yrs ago. it will get rid of fake currency as everyone knows below Rs.100 cost of replication is too high to offer any profits. besides major black money in current system is due to these high currency notes, just check real estate transactions where they always ask for black money (cash) even when buying 1-crore property. i dont know why you cant understand such logic which has been discussed 1000 times but noone takes action in the govt because it will hurt them for sure. we have a strong banking system in place now, use DD cheque credit/debit/atm cards or mobile money. we dont need 100/500/100 notes…..its very difficult to get change for these big notes in daily routine jobs

But BABA Amte and Ramdev has hit the nail on the head…any patriotic Indian will support their cause. It is preposterous to think that any govet will enact a legislation with out public pressure…if u cannot contribute please do not dicourage those who are doing service to the nation….

mohit hi!

thanks for your response.

Actually, you are saying what I am saying. I am also saying support the cause of corruption. I started my website on this issue much begore Anna Hazare and Baba Ramdev started talking about it. As you said in your response, I do not support the method. In fact, I think Baba Ramdev has lost a great opportunity. Baba Ramdev has ground level support and name recognition all over the country. He should have used this to help a group of people win elections rather than going on fast. Imagine Baba Ramdev supported a group of people who won the elections in a particular state. Don’t you think he would be able to make appropriate laws at the state level to reduce corruption?

Right now, I think Baba muddled up the issue. First, as mentioned above he should have used his popularity to assist the right people to win elections. Second, he should have waited for Anna Hazare’s talks with the government to be over. If the discussion was going the way it is now, he should have have joined forces with Anna Hazare to strengthen the movement. Now I believe that the overall movement has been weakened.
